Summary

The second title in Rick Riordan's Trials of Apollo series - set in the action-packed world of Percy Jackson。

The god Apollo, cast down to earth and trapped in the form of a gawky teenage boy as punishment, must set off on the second of his harrowing (and hilarious) trials。

He and his companions seek the ancient oracles - restoring them is the only way for Apollo to reclaim his place on Mount Olympus - but this is easier said than done。

Somewhere in the American Midwest is a haunted cave that may hold answers for Apollo in his quest to become a god again 。 。 。 if it doesn't kill him or drive him insane first。 Standing in Apollo's way is the second member of the evil Triumvirate - a Roman emperor whose love of bloodshed and spectacle makes even Nero look tame。

To survive the encounter, Apollo will need the help of a now-mortal goddess, a bronze dragon, and some familiar demigod faces from Camp Half-Blood。 With them by his side, can Apollo face down the greatest challenge of his four thousand years of existence?

I was an avid reader of Riordan’s books when they had their heyday, and I’ve recently begun revisiting them for fun and reading the ones that were published after I got older。 While I really enjoyed the originals and I still do, I think I actually like this series—and specifically this book—more。 It’s a departure from his typical archetypal teenage characters (personally, I find these characters more realistic and enjoyable) and introduces more mature themes with actual emotional depth while sti I was an avid reader of Riordan’s books when they had their heyday, and I’ve recently begun revisiting them for fun and reading the ones that were published after I got older。 While I really enjoyed the originals and I still do, I think I actually like this series—and specifically this book—more。 It’s a departure from his typical archetypal teenage characters (personally, I find these characters more realistic and enjoyable) and introduces more mature themes with actual emotional depth while still being packaged in a YA-friendly form。 Of course it’s still a little predictable and packed with those perfectly timed coincidental saves that Rick seems to love, but it was engaging and funny and builds well off of previous stories and concerns that we’ve seen in the other series。 Plus, I can’t overstate how much it would have meant to me as a kid to have queer representation in books like this, so I’m healing my child heart a little bit each page。 。。。more

For a teenager i think this will be a hit but not for adults。 I think i have outgrew this types of ya books。 I read it bcos didnt even know there was a third series for the greekmyth/pj universe so i gave it a try since i love pj so much when i was a kid。 I still love it tho but not because its great but bcos it kinda makes my 13 y/o self happy。

It was okay。 The charms I initially discovered in the first book got a little old by the end。 I didn’t feel super invested in everything that was going on, but I found it entertaining。 I liked the way Riordan brought characters front the surrounding universe into the story。

Wow!

And just like that, I’m pretty bored again。 There’s just a bit too much repetition and the battles feel long and drawn out。 The novel elements in the first book don’t really carry through to this second installment。 Not terrible, but just not as exciting if you’re 13 books into this franchise。

Bingung mau nge-rate berapa。 Awalnya agak membosankan, tapi akhir-akhirnya nendang。 Apalagi ada tanda-tanda ketemu kawan lama。 Peuh, langsung semangat。 Jadi, 4,5 saja, ya。

weird pacing some moments were really fun and addictive and some were boring and very very slow so yeah… :/

It was very fun to read and got lots of adventures。Apollo continue with his quest to find the Oracles so he might be able to return to his former glory as god。 He team up with Leo and Calypso to defeat the second emperor of the Triumvirate。 This one was more tiring and less funny compared to the first book。 They fought many monsters and needs to go or escape places most of the time。 For me The Hidden Oracle was more like a PJO book and The Burning Maze was the same with a HoO book。 Many things h It was very fun to read and got lots of adventures。Apollo continue with his quest to find the Oracles so he might be able to return to his former glory as god。 He team up with Leo and Calypso to defeat the second emperor of the Triumvirate。 This one was more tiring and less funny compared to the first book。 They fought many monsters and needs to go or escape places most of the time。 For me The Hidden Oracle was more like a PJO book and The Burning Maze was the same with a HoO book。 Many things happened。 I hope to reread this book in the future so I can appreciate it more。 。。。more

This book was heavy with so much action and adventure and details, in general。 It took me a longer time to finish this book but I started it almost as soon after I finished the last one, and spent a fair amount of time during my morning trying to complete it。There were definitely more characters introduced in this novel, all of whom help to push the plot along and bring in more content into the book itself。 There are also more couples and relationships are introduced in this instalment, especial This book was heavy with so much action and adventure and details, in general。 It took me a longer time to finish this book but I started it almost as soon after I finished the last one, and spent a fair amount of time during my morning trying to complete it。There were definitely more characters introduced in this novel, all of whom help to push the plot along and bring in more content into the book itself。 There are also more couples and relationships are introduced in this instalment, especially ones that belong to the LGBTQ+ community。By far, my favourite character and God is Apollo, mostly because he has this vain and sarcastic persona。 His narcissism makes him a dorky and witty character, which makes him the most interesting character Riordan has written, by far。 The fact that Apollo is not a hero and does not pretend to be is amazing to read, as there is very little effort to portraying him as anything he is not or even as an empathetic saint, but rather as a friendlier version of the Greek God。 Furthermore, a lot more about Apollo's past and present are revealed, especially his previous interactions with historical figures。 The way that Apollo is characterised in this novel is unique to the way Riordan usually presents historical experiences or flashbacks。 I love that Apollo is experiencing a mental crisis wherein which he regrets his past involvements and actions, which is often followed by his sassy justification that makes him feel less guilty about what he did as a God。The book as a whole deserves 3 or 3。5 stars, but Apollo's sense of humour is the reason I am boosting it up to 4 stars。 。。。more

I'm starting to get back into the rhythm of these books and as a result, I'm loving it more and more。 Apollo is his normal obnoxious self, but he's starting to grow on me。 But really, it's the other characters that make it so much fun, especially when they metaphorically (or literally) roll their eyes at him。 But it's even more that as much as he thinks the world revolves around him when he finds out it doesn't, he pouts but then he does what she should do anyway。 I mean, considering that the wo I'm starting to get back into the rhythm of these books and as a result, I'm loving it more and more。 Apollo is his normal obnoxious self, but he's starting to grow on me。 But really, it's the other characters that make it so much fun, especially when they metaphorically (or literally) roll their eyes at him。 But it's even more that as much as he thinks the world revolves around him when he finds out it doesn't, he pouts but then he does what she should do anyway。 I mean, considering that the world actually doesn't revolve around him, he's pretty good-natured about the whole thing。 You also get the feeling that when he threatens to destroy someone when he gets his god powers back he's not really going to end up bothering。 I'm loving the character development that is happening with Apollo and I love that his awesome friends are teaching him with infinite patience。 I love that Riordan has him interact with people from his past, especially those that he wronged (like Calypso) and he's being reminded of what he did that wasn't all that cool and that it's slowly changing him and teaching him that perhaps he could have done things differently。 Meg? I'm honestly liking her。 I mean she comes off as an ill-mannered brat, but when you consider her past, it totally makes sense。 And regardless of how messed up, she has been, you can tell from her actions that the things she's done for her stepfather have been completely through fear and that her time with Apollo and the gang will also help heal her and teach her a better way。 I absolutely loved Emmie and Jo and know they were exactly the right people that Apollo, Leo, and Calypso had to meet and learn from (and do things for)。 I can't wait to continue with this series! 。。。more
